Stewart's 67 MGB GT

Post by Stewart »

I guess I should get around to starting one of these

I've taken over from Gorm68 and I am now slowly getting it finished.

So far I've rebuilt the carbs, replaced the exhaust from the manifold back with a TT, refreshed the distributor, mounted the coil and fixed a miss wired ignition, flushed out the block, new t stat housing and stat, changed the oil filter to an inverted spin on, painted the radiator, installed a new fuel sender and a bunch of other little things. Still need to fix an air leak on the fuel pump and the tach doesn't seem to work.

Plan is to stick with the original Tartan red with black leather with red piping. Transmission will be swapped out for a 3 sync overdrive. Engine will be refreshed at a minimum or fully rebuilt once I get a look at the inside. Wheels will be replaced with new splined 15" alloys.

Nice progress! Was that really the first start up? Sure fired fast!

I hear the fuel pump problem, but at least it's pumping. And you have the wrong temp gauge. Mark Is don't have any of that silly C-N-H stuff. Real numbers for real men. :P

OMG!!! That is awesome. Like I had told you before you bought we hoped the motor ran, but based on the exterior appearance were not sure. I am so happy the car has gone to a good home, you are doing a great job getting it all together, CONGRATULATIONS!

It's been cranked a few times but I had the firing order off by 1. Carb backfires are freakin loud.

Hi Stewart,
If you're looking for a 3 synchro overdrive gearbox for your '67 GT, call me. I have one in my possession that belongs to Steve. I'm probably nearer to you than Steve is, so if you want it, pick it up before I return it to him. My number is 626 260 1403. I'll be out of here by the end of next week.

Wow Stewart, on the road on what, a week or two? Nice work! I've spent that long just dealing with a lifter issue!

It's about to go from running to non running again. The car took a trip to the paint shop and will be going back next week once the engine/trans is out and the engine bay stripped. Anyone want to help pull an engine this weekend?

I'm sure some will pick out where this was taken.

It's now out of my hands. Finished the engine bay last night and today it was sent on it's way. Anyone know of a good powder coat shop?

Best shop I know of is Ajax's in Van Nuys. I'm sure there are other good shops but this is the one I've used almost exclusively for 15 years. They also do sand / bead blasting and welding.

7933 Gloria Ave, Van Nuys, CA 91406

My "guy" there is Bill, although he may not remember me by name because I haven't been there in about 3 years now. I've moved away from powder coat and into POR15 for most things.

I guess I'm committed to deleting the fender beads now. They also found a bit more rust in the door.

A man after my own heart! Those seams were a bad idea from the start. Neither of my GTs have them anymore. I'm half temped to remove them from the roadster as well, next time it's painted.

I need to take my BGT back to Classic Vision one of these days to get the valance worked over. Stewart, is yours a new panel, or a straight original? Of all my cars, I don't have a single straight B/C valance to use as a template to repair it so if yours is straight as original then now would be a good time to take my car in as well.

I'm thinking its a fairly straight original best as I can tell. I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow as I need to drop off the rear bumper.

Turns out one of the dog legs had a bit of fiberglass and a pound or 2 of bondo. The rest of the car is looking pretty good so far. Work is going pretty quick thanks to Steve's previous visits.
