Hi Stewart,

If you need a trans rebuilt why not do it your self. The MGB trans is very straight forward and simple enough that you should be able to rebuild your own trans with a little time and patience.
The other option would be to replace it with another one or a five speed.
Give Dave Wellwood a call as he would know who to call.

Is this for a standard box of the OD box you just got? Do you know what is wrong with it? I used Quantum for a full rebuild and the work was brilliant, but it did require shipping the gearbox to them.

It's the od box. I'd like to get a trained set of eyes on it and possibly upgrade the laygear if it needs it. Mostly for peace of mind as I only want to put the engine in once.

I too had the laygear in my early box changed for the later, larger one and dual bearings about 15 years ago. Good insurance for a longer life.

I asked around a few years ago and only one guy was doing OD repair in the area. He was a Lotus expert in Chatsworth on Oso Street, near Darrin's MG. In fact that may be who told me about him. Never did use the guy though, he was too busy at the time.

I ended shipping to Quantum, cost about $72 each way plus what I spent on packaging. Probably more now with fuel prices so high.

Stewart,

I just had my Jensen Healey 5-speed Getrag transmission repaired at Transaxle Engineering in Chatsworth. Call Jeff Field at 818-998-2739 about your repair if you haven't already taken care of it.

I just finished my manual trans class at UTI and almost no instructor has a clue how that trans works. There is one old guy who worked at a BL dealer back in the day. I know that mine doesn't work, but I am hoping its just an electrical issue and that the re-wire I am doing will resolve that problem.

Oh, yeah so in case I never mentioned it, because I didn't, I have been going to UTI for the last year.

So we're going to have another go-to guy in the group? Nice! Can't wait for you to fix all my cars for me so I can spend more time on the road and less in the garage. :D

Yeah give me a little time, because I failed at changing spark plugs in my Volvo. Turns out it needs two tools I don't actually have. A T30 torx and a 3.8's deep socket.

And back on topic, sorry I don't really know any trans shops.
