Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
Thanks for the welcome Steve. There was a discussion on the MGE related to removing fender beads, and I recognized my old car in the pics. I pinged Stewart to see what was going on with it, and he pointed me to this tread.

Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
In England all paint colors are mixed to a specific code formula, and the paint manufacturer makes no difference. Most paint shops have their own paint mixing schemes, so they can tint colors to satisfy their customers, or make it easy on themselves. There is no question of colors being made up of left over dregs in English car manufacture.

Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
The ratio of pigments may be the same from one manufacturer to the next, but you can't believe that a given pigment from one manufacturer would appear identical to the human eye as the same pigment from another manufacturer.
Also, the formulas for our cars were produced when lacquer and acrylic were the order of the day. As you move to urethanes, bc/cc, and now water based, the chemistry of those pigments don't carry over. So, as you change paint platforms, "equivalent" pigments get substituted. In many cases, an equivalent doesn't exist, so a "similar" pigment gets substituted.
So, with any given formula containing 5 or 6 pigments, it's easy to see how the same formulation from PPG in acrylic enamel, might look NOTHING like that same formulation from DuPont in bc/cc. I've had it happen to me; usame formulation, same manufacturer (PPG), same supplier, but acrylic vs urethane, and the resulting color was VERY different.

Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
This is why paint shops have a mixing scheme. This enables a good paint man to match exactly to a sample. A good sample is usually from an area that isn't on the out side of the car. When mixed, a swatch is painted and compared to the original under natural light, infra red light, and ultra violet light. there should be no variations if the color is matched properly.
With early lacquer the formulations from different manufacturers were sometimes different for a given color, which is why you have to use the formula that the paint manufacturer gives for a color. The same applies to more modern paints. Most manufacturers have an archive of obsolete colors.

Moving full steam ahead again. Unfortunately there was a minor setback as the guys wet sanding the car felt the clear was a bit thin so the car was recleared.

Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
Stewart,
So will your MGB GT be ready for the up coming CCBCC car show on July 20th.
I sure hope so as your car should look good.
I am shooting to have my GT6 finished and at the show and the paint work is still in primer and it is almost as far apart as yours. Even after the paint is finished it will still need the complete interior installed which is sitting ready to go in.

The new side trim from moss fits and looks great. Huge improvement over the cheaper stainless trim they are selling. Does anyone know if the vinyl trim portion of the headliner had to go in before the windshield?

As I remember, they replaced my headliner with the winshield in place. You could always call them and ask.

I replaced mine with the windscreen and trim pieces in place. Just tucked it under.

Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
Hi Stewart,
As Tannyo and Steve have said it can be done but is much easier for the installer if the windshield is not in the car when doing the headliner or at least the guy that is doing my headliner has stated to me. I am getting closer to that point and just hope that my car turns out looking as nice as yours has turned out in the photos.

Re: Stewart's 67 MGB GT
Hatch is back on and the guy spelled mgb right Chose the location of the wing mirrors and the first hole was drilled before I left.
It's looking like I should have the car back next week.
One issue with the door latch. The cover portion came off and of course sprung. If anyone has a picture of the correct orientation of the parts it would be most helpful.

You mean the innards of the latch itself? I have a couple spare latches somewhere. Not sure if they are supposed to come open though. I'll try to find them.

The cam portion that latches the door came off. Not sure if that was supposed to happen or not.

This part? Does this show what you need? The "U" points up and toward the door jam. When latched, the "U" points more vertical.
