2009 Memorial Day Run
It's almost here! Mark your calendars for Monday, May 25, and then come join your friends (and make a few new ones) at the Vintage Motoring Memorial Day Run. This "fun run" tours a variety of scenic roads ranging from canyons to country back roads. Speeds are typically a bit slower on this run than the other holiday runs, making it perfect for classic cars of any type.
We will meet at the Malibu Colony Plaza located at 23841 West Malibu Road, at the southwest corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way, approximately 12 miles north / west from where I-10 turns into PCH. Meeting time is 8:30 AM with roll-out at 9:30. NOTE 30-MINUTE TIME CHANGE
As always, this is an unorganized run and everyone is welcome.

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Wish I could be there, I will be one of the crazy people towing a float that the kids make for the Topanga Memorial Day Parade, think this year its going to be a 'Peace Tree' ! You probably already know that they close the canyon from about 7am to I think 10am Monday morning. p.s will not be using the Twin Cam as the tow vehicle.
cheers

I'll be there. My dad will be in town, so I'll try to convince him to be my co-pilot.

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Larry, if you bring the E-Type then you will be the first Jag to actually do one of the runs. We have them show up at the start all the time but then they go home! Actually I believe there was a sedan that did part of one of the runs a year or two ago.
Mark, too bad we'll miss you. I wasn't even aware there was a Topanga parade. We don't leave until 10AM, maybe you can be in the lead float so you can finish early and run down the hill to meet us.

I'm a "definite maybe" with the TR4. The Jag has a show the following weekend so it won't get to come out to play.
I'll alert the Triumph clubs.

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Well, crap, that streak may stay alive, Steve. On Friday, someone at work put a good size dent in the door of my E-type with an SUV bumper. It doesn't affect it driving wise, but it may be in the shop that weekend. Besides, I'm a bit embarassed to drive it that way.Steve Simmons wrote:Larry, if you bring the E-Type then you will be the first Jag to actually do one of the runs.

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Oh man, sorry to hear that! I guess that's the risk we take driving our cars instead of keeping them locked away.
If you need a recommendation for a painter let me know. I have "a guy" who can do it right, and would put your car at the front of the line if I asked him to. He's done lots of E-Types including the winner of the LA Concourse last year.

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Thanks, Steve. I need to get it over to my friend's shop in T.O. to assess my options. He helped me with the MG paintwork. Unfortunately, there's no money available to paint the whole car. Actually, there is no damage to the paint. The car cover was on it and it just got pushed in.

Larry, too big a dent for PDR (paintless dent removal) technique? There is a good fellow in the T/O area that I can recommend.

We owned a "67 Volvo 1800S that we picked up in Gotburg and drove in Europe for 2 months before shipping it back to CA. I still have the license plates that we used in Europe and use one of them on my MG. I would like to talk with you on Monday if you make it.

It doesn't look like the MG will be able to make it to this run.
Perhaps this Fall.

I'd really love to hear about it! I look forward to meeting you on Monday. Was the Volvo green? If so, it could be my car (though it's red now)!drtombellows wrote:We owned a "67 Volvo 1800S that we picked up in Gotburg and drove in Europe for 2 months before shipping it back to CA. Ours was red also from the factory, but it could have been repainted before you got it. I'll see on Monday and you will see the license plate.

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Hard to say, but I suspect the group will be at the last regrouping stop (Point Mugu after 45 miles of driving) at around the 90-minute mark. The whole run of 67 miles shouldn't take more than 2.5 hours depending on how long people want to stop. I guess that means we're back at the plaza around noon?
By the way, welcome to the forums, Tanny!

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
Same basic route as we do every Memorial Day. The route sheet will be posted later today once I verify that there are no closed roads. Anyone want to save me some time and make sure West Potrero is open down the canyon to Lewis?

Re: 2009 Memorial Day Run
My wife just asked me if we are going to take the "little car" for a drive Monday, so I searched around a bit and found this site. We haven't had the MGB for very long , only a few months. We had it up for auction at the tow yard where I work in Santa Clarita. It wouldn't start and there seemed to be no interest in it. I disconnected the fuel line at the Weber and blew air through the filler neck until it was primed up, cranked it and it seems to run great. I ended up buying it for $800.00 It doesn't look all that great as the hood is rusty primer and the right front fender is black and not the blue of the rest of the car So look for us Monday- Keith and Sherri. We can use all the tips and encouragement we can get. See ya'll in Malibu

Everyone please note that the route sheet has been posted, and also the 30-minute time change that was made shortly after the thread was started. We depart on the run at 9:30 AM!
Keith, welcome to the forums! I'll take a car with mismatched body panel colors over a trailer queen any day. Get it reliable and drive the wheels off! (not literally of course!)
