I think Malcolm should be penalized because he has too much time to watch the internet. All he ever does is polish his Jaguar 3.4.
Gene- just back from polishing the green TC

OK. Let's try a harder one.

Need the make and model. Don't much care about the year.

Hi Dean,
It's unusual to see a stick shift, but I think this is a Facel Vega HK500. I originally thought Facellia because of the stick shift, but I think HK500 because of the instrumentation.

Hey Gene,
Yes, I've really polished up the old 3.4. Now it shines just like the bark of an old tree.

So you really are barking up the wrong tree, Malcolm.
In baseball, running into someone is apparently a "collision".
But doing the same thing in a car somehow makes it an "accident".

(*&*%&. It sure looks like Malcolm did it again. I thought the stick shift would send him down the wrong path.

This is indeed the most desirable of the line, an HK 500 4 Speed. The 4 speed was a $600 option on a $7,500 car. To put the price into perspective it was $4,000 more than an XK140 and $700 more than a Gull Wing . Packed with an Chrysler Hemi 383 and enough leather to skin six Jaguars this car (although French) is hard to ignore. And desirable enough for Sterling Moss to use it for transport between races (see there is a British connection).

Here is a shot from the front and one from the rear. If you look closely you can see the HK 500 markings across the rear of the deck lid. It is kind of cool.

Here is how the scoring is being handled. After looking through the judging criteria and by-laws (for reasons to disqualify Malcolm's once again perfect answer :) ), the judges have decided to award one point to Tannyo for jumping in (before Malcolm) and identifying the make and one point for Malcolm for adding the model.

Score is:
Gene - 1
Malcolm - 4
Steve - 2
Larry - 2
Tannyo -1

You can be assured that the next challenge will be posted when Malcolm is off line (Steve, can't you arrange that??) :)

Dean - off to sand the Lotus...

Come on guys, what is this??? It's just that I'm older than most of you guys, and can remember when most of these cars were unwanted old clunkers. In 1965 I was driving an XK120, and received a lot of stick from my workmates for driving an old wreck, when I should be driving something like " nice Cortina". Can you imagine, people now think Cortinas are classic!!!

I saw a boring old early 70's 4-ton truck yesterday and thought wow, what a classic for a big truck. Then it struck me how odd it is to think that the 70's were nearly 40 years ago. :wtf:

Malcolm, it's a distinct possibility that Steve will - if not block you out completely - make it really hard for you to respond.
He's already handicapped me, so that every time I change to a different page, or try to resond, I have to log in again.
On the other hand, now that Dean changed the scoring system, that might actually help you.
Did you notice your "minus four" points?

Steve, I hate to tell you but the internet service here is better than it was in the hills of California.
Perhaps because the air card doesn't have to fight the L.A. air.
Also, I'll have DSL soon, which wasn't even an option in L.A.
So there.

I see that Malcolm is back on line, so this one is a little harder.

Here is the next challenge. They made 145 of these. Need the make, model, year(s) and one interesting fact about the car.

That could've been the result of George Barris' trip (literally) to England, where he apparently got some really bad LSD.
Although, that wouldn't explain 145 of them being made...unless he was on speed, too.

Hi Dean,
I think that is a 1968 Sunbeam Rapier with body by Touring. Can't think of anything interesting to say about it. Didn't they call it the Venezia? I see it's LHD so the year is probably earlier than the licence plate suggests. I guess 1964.

Geez, I may as well quit while I'm behind! I'm seeing so many styling cues in that one from other custom-bodied cars. The first that popped to mind was Arnolt.

Wow Malcolm you are really good. You secured one of the two points.

Anyone else want to pick up the remaining point? Hint: The full name is Sunbeam Venezia (blank) and the one intesting fact is...
