***I posted this on MGE, but figured not everyone was a member over there, and the folks here would appreciate it even more.***
Even though I'm not an old fart, whoops, I mean more "experienced person"... I love nostalgia/history/whatever you want to call it. Especially when it comes to British cars. I tend to be a pic hoarder and have hoarded a small collection of random pictures with LBC's in the background. The majority of them seem to be candid snap shots.
You'll notice most of the LBC's are pretty banged up, are dirty, and look like they've been rode hard and put up wet. That's the way I like to see these old cars (believe it or not). Maybe the cars were banged up in fender bender, or maybe there was a hairy moment racing through a canyon going faster than they should have been. Maybe these cars handled so different than anything else on the market, the owners just couldn't control them until it was too late. Who knows.
If anyone has other pics that fit into this thread, PLEASE post them up! I love seeing this type of thing. Pics like this just remind me why I put off doing real restoration work on my car. To me it's kinda cool to just roll around in an unrestored, fairly shabby, British car.
Ok enough of my rambling.

Re: Pictures: "When They Were Just Cars"
Those were fun, thanks! I'm a nostalgia fan as well. You can probably start a book on carrying rugs in British sports cars with a couple of those photos.
The guy in the TR-3 looks like he just got rear ended by the motorcycle, the way he's looking over his shoulder.
Also notice the ladies parked on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Our run next Monday will drive right by there.
I assume you've seen the historical galleries on my site? They will be updated soon with tons of additional images.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pics!
"Historical" as in your activities done in the past 4-5 years, or "old historical" like the pics above?
I could've sworn I viewed all the pics on this site, but I must've missed the oldy moldy's...

No, the old images on my MG Nuts site. Click the sig, and go to "M.G. Image Gallery". There are about 350 old photos there, and a couple hundred more on the way.

Re: Pictures: "When They Were Just Cars"
I'm already diggin'!
Can't believe I've been missing out on those great old pics. The MGA Coupe concept is the car they SHOULD HAVE BUILT. It's perfect.
Why is it that 99.9% of all MG concepts looked better than the production models? The production models are still pretty cars... obviously... but the concept cars were just over the top gorgeous.
If the concept cars were built... you'd have a hard time finding a restored one under $50k... instead a nice B can be found for a 5th of that... or in my case a running beater for a 50th of that number lol.
Maybe it's a good thing those concepts didn't come to fruition. I'd never be able to afford them...

Just noticed a couple of the MGC GTS cars had wide wire wheels!
Too bad those would be beyond impossible to find...

The MGA Coupe was built for four years I do belive.CJ Steak wrote: The MGA Coupe concept is the car they SHOULD HAVE BUILT. It's perfect.
1956-1960 with about 32000 produced in total.
I know of one in Ventura that sits out on the street and is in need of a restoration but the owner will not part with it and dose not seem to be interested in fixing it up.

Dayton has everything you'd ever want, and if they don't then they can make it. http://www.daytonwirewheels.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm aware of those coupes... they should've built these:

That's an abortion of a car compared to the prototype in the link above.

I guess you could call the title to these photos "When they were just 'race' cars"

Hi Chris,
I totally agree with you there. I think old cars that look like old cars have so much more character.

Nice one, Chris. I see your pebble beach photos and raise you Tam's Old Race Car Site, specifically Paramount Raceway right here in our back yard.gorms68 wrote:I guess you could call the title to these photos "When they were just 'race' cars"

Those are great pix ! .
I too love unrestored cars , maybe not dented but otherwise just like those in your pictures , they're being loved and enjoyed , being USED as they were designed for ,not to be trailered to stupid car shows .
